The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Lyrasis, two prominent players in the global scholarly communications landscape, are pleased to announce a new partnership that enables libraries to provide crucial financial support to DOAJ. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both organizations to strengthen Open Access and democratize access to scholarly research.
DOAJ, a trusted directory dedicated to indexing high-quality Open Access journals, plays a pivotal role in the scholarly community. Lyrasis, a nonprofit membership organization that catalyzes and enables equitable access to the world’s knowledge and cultural heritage, shares DOAJ's vision of equitable access to information. This partnership opens up the possibility for US libraries, without existing opportunities to support DOAJ via a consortial arrangement, to directly contribute to DOAJ's sustainability and its mission of enhancing the visibility and accessibility of Open Access research.
Celeste Feather, Senior Director of Content and Scholarly Communication Initiatives at Lyrasis said, “Lyrasis intentionally seeks opportunities to strengthen connections within and across communities to foster collaboration for broad and meaningful impact. Our hope is that this exciting partnership will empower more libraries to invest in DOAJ and help sustain this key scholarly infrastructure that benefits the global community.”
With DOAJ's commitment to indexing high-quality Open Access journals, this collaboration presents a significant opportunity for libraries to contribute to a more inclusive and open scholarly ecosystem. "We are delighted to partner with Lyrasis, which is leading in its innovative approaches to support open access services and infrastructure," said Joanna Ball, Managing Director at DOAJ. "This collaboration will enable even more libraries to become active advocates for Open Access infrastructure."
This partnership simplifies the process of library contributions for both libraries and DOAJ, facilitating financial support for DOAJ's vital work and ensuring that it can concentrate its efforts on its core mission of evaluating and indexing trusted Open Access journals.
Lyrasis is a community-supported membership organization whose mission is to support enduring access to the world’s shared academic, scientific and cultural heritage through leadership in open technologies, content services, digital solutions and collaboration with archives, libraries, museums and knowledge communities worldwide.
