ATLANTA, GA – September 11, 2019 – LYRASIS, one of the nation’s leading technology and services nonprofits supporting archives, libraries, researchers and museums, is pleased to announce our partnership with the Educopia Institute to support its recent “Next Generation Library Publishing” project. This Next Gen Library Publishing project recently received an award in the amount of $2,200,000 from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin.

The project will be led by Educopia, and will include LYRASIS, California Digital Library (CDL), Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), Longleaf Services, and Strategies for Open Science (Stratos) as partners. The goal will be to create new publishing pathways for authors, editors, and readers by advancing and integrating open source publishing infrastructure to provide robust support for library publishing.  As part of the partnership, LYRASIS will provide strategic support and outreach, including;

  • Development and deployment of a community engagement strategy, along with all project partners;
  • Identifying and engaging with early adopters.
  • Scope, plan and pilot service offerings of the technologies being developed;
  • Provide strong guidance and input on all project deliverables/publications.

John Herbert, Senior Director of Technology and Innovation for LYRASIS, says of the partnership, “We’re excited to be a part of this group of top tier institutions tackling a set of very difficult issues. Moreover, we are grateful for Educopia’s role as the leader of the overall project, and the generous funding provided by Arcadia. We expect this partnership to really move the needle on open source publishing, an area that is of the utmost urgency in the field today.”

Robert Miller, CEO of LYRASIS, remarked, “This Next Generation Library Publishing project fits squarely with the LYRASIS strategic priorities of reimagining a vibrant scholarly publishing community and providing support and sustainable services for open source software.” Click here to learn more about the project and its partners.
